A triple threat of water-related crises is endangering the lives of 190 million children

A glass of clean water is easily available to most of us, but for millions of children around the world it is the difference between life and death.

Ten African countries are at the highest risk from a combination of three water-related threats: 1) inadequate supplies 2) sanitation problems causing diseases and 3) climate hazards.

Ten African countries are at the highest risk from a combination of three water-related threats: 1) inadequate supplies 2) sanitation problems causing diseases and 3) climate hazards.

This triple threat is most acute in West and Central Africa, one of the world's most water-insecure and climate-impacted regions. Many of the worst-affected countries, particularly in the Sahel region, are also facing instability and armed conflict, further impeding children’s access to clean water and sanitation.

Nearly one-third of children are in urgent need of access to drinkable water at home, and two-thirds need access to basic sanitation services. Hand hygiene is also limited, with three-quarters of children unable to wash their hands because of a lack of water and soap at home.

As a result, these countries also carry a heavy burden of child deaths from diseases caused by inadequate water sanitation and hygiene, such as diarrhea.

Globally, more than 1,000 children under five die every day from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related diseases.
The lack of drinking water puts their lives at risk.

With your regular donation, every month, we can save these children with a simple solution.

Water purification tablets can convert 5 liters of dirty water into clean water in a matter of minutes. They are easy to use, help prevent diseases and provide the necessary hygiene.
