Myanmar Earthquakes
Let your kindness flow during Songkran to help children in crisis.
Every Minute Counts.
A devastating earthquake has struck Myanmar, causing immense destruction.
More than 3,000 people - children included, have lost their lives, and over 4,700 have been injured. Families have been displaced, homes reduced to rubble, and entire communities left in crisis. The death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue. Cities like Sagaing, Nay Pyi Daw, and Mandalay, home to hundreds of thousands of children, have suffered severe damage.
Here in Thailand, we have also felt the impact of this disaster.
UNICEF Thailand has been closely monitoring the situation, coordinating with partners, and standing ready to support national and local authorities in responding to the needs of affected children and families.
Within hours, UNICEF provided guidance to help parents talk to their children about the earthquake and support them through the trauma. This guidance was shared widely through UNICEF’s social media platforms and partner networks, including Early Moments Matter on Mobile.
While Thailand has experienced tremors and local disruptions, the devastation in Myanmar is far greater. Children and families there are in desperate need of food, clean water, shelter, and medical care.

They cannot wait. UNICEF teams are already on the ground delivering life-saving supplies. Our global supply hub in Copenhagen is preparing to send more relief items such as tents, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, and emergency medical aid as quickly as possible.

They cannot wait. UNICEF teams are already on the ground delivering life-saving supplies. In the days that followed, UNICEF mobilized quickly—working around the clock with partners on the ground to bring critical relief to the hardest-hit communities.

UNICEF and its partners have provided the following life-saving support over the past month:
- Provided access to safe drinking water to 550,000 people.
- Ensured 230,000 people received essential hygiene supplies.
- Gave 400,000 people - including 50,000 children under five and 5,000 pregnant and lactating women - access to crucial health and nutrition services.
- Extended psychosocial support and child protection services to13,000 vulnerable children.
- Provided child protection kits to more than 6,500 children, including those with disabilities.
These numbers demonstrate the practical support we have provided, but they also represent care, resilience, and the power of coming together in a crisis.
To all our partners, donors, and supporters—thank you. Your generosity fuels our work and brings real, much-needed help to children in the middle of an emergency.
